If it is unsafe, call 911 first

Call 911 for a fire, a gas smell, or sparking. Call us after you are safe.

  1. Water main. Find the main shut-off where the water line enters the house, often by the meter or the front wall. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
  2. Breaker panel. Open the panel and switch the main breaker off. Stay away if the panel is wet, buzzing, or sparking.
  3. Roof leak. Catch the drip with a bucket. Tarp the roof only if you can do it without climbing a steep, wet, or high roof.
